Summary

The focus of the support we offer is to work in partnership with carers and other professionals, to contribute a psychological perspective on the impacts of neglect and abuse on the development, emotional well-being and behaviour of children in the care of Blackpool Council.

What we do

The primary clinical focus of the service is to:
  1. Offer Psychological Consultation to Social Workers and other Staff working with children and young people who are Looked After by Blackpool Council
  2. Provide Psychological Advice and Support to Foster Carers and Residential Staff regarding children and young people in the care of Blackpool Council
  3. Provide Training sessions, alongside partner agencies, to Blackpool Foster Carers
  4. Following initial Consultations, carry out specialist Assessment work and Therapeutic interventions for children and young people in the care of Blackpool Council

How to access the service

Referral criteria:
We are commissioned to provide a targeted service to children and young people in the care of Blackpool Council. Referrals to the service are usually made by the referred child’s Social Worker.

We do not accept referrals for children and young people in the care of other local authorities. There are similar services (e.g. SCAYT plus) which provide services to children and young people in the care of Lancashire County Council and Blackburn with Darwin Council.
We do not provide a Court Assessment service or Forensic assessments.

How do I make a referral?
All referrals should be made using our referral form and e-mailed to our administrator on LACBlackpool@Lancashirecare.nhs.uk

How to contact us:

We are based with other local NHS children’s services at Whitegate Health Centre, Blackpool.

Where are appointments held?
All of our appointments are offered in community locations across Blackpool and the Fylde coast.

First appointments are usually with the referred child’s social worker, at their work-base. Appointments with Foster Carers are usually carried out as home visits. Appointments for assessment and therapy work may be carried out as a home visit, a school-based appointment or at an NHS site depending on the presenting needs and the focus of the clinical work.
