The Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service is commissioned for people over 18 years of age resident in Central Lancashire with specific difficulties with speech, language and swallowing disorders.
The Speech and Language Therapists within the team are specialists in assessing, diagnosing and managing people who have communication and/or swallowing problems. Speech and language therapists work within multi-disciplinary teams with other professional such as GPs, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Dietitians. Rehabilitation and management of communication and swallowing disorders can occur in several locations including in a clinic, in the client’s own home and in nursing homes.
Swallowing and/or communication difficulties can be as a result of a stroke or a progressive neurological problem such as Parkinsons’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia etc.
The service also provides assessment and therapy for clients who stammer.
If there is a problem with swallowing, referrals needs to be accessed via your GP or allied Health professional within Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust.
If there is a problem with communication only, you can refer to the service directly or ask your GP or Health Professional within the Trust to refer.
We offer clinic appointments here and at the Healthport on Vicarage Lane in Fulwood and also domically visits depending on the needs of the client.
